AWOL analytics.

Recently I was chatting online to an internet chum about the wonders of google analytics, basically a function designed to show you what search parameters are being used by people to locate your site.

Turns out wordpress has it’s own built in analytics function, the search parameters being used to find this blog?

Well I’m glad you asked.

Yesterday’s search parameters used by people to find this site.

ugly 15
weather icons 5
ugly pic 3
ugly penis 3
real penis’s 2
albury paper mill 2
man with giant penis 2
circumcised penis 2
penis face 1
belinda neal iguanas 1

I tells ya, this site is nothing if not high-brow.

UPDATE: Monday 7th July has been AWOL’s buisiest day so far, even more significantly, four readers were actually directed here by using the search term “Albury Wodonga online”.

My celebrations may be a little premature however, the exact same number were directed here using the search term “giant penis”.

About alburywodongaonline

Hi I'm Jack Stone (a pseudonym), I'm a long-time Albury resident and I think it's a great place to live and work. I have a strong interest in local events and media and I started this site because I think a different perspective is often needed when reporting local news. I take a keen interest in local politics, as well as what's going on at the state and federal level, I'm also a supporter of social justice issues, the envirionment and the need for people to have a say in the events that effect their lives. I'm a fan of the Border Bandits and I'd love to see both teams take the flag this year, and next year, and maybe the one after that too.

So anyone searching for a real big ugly giant circumcised penis is directed here by Google? What does that say Jack?

  2. Greg Naylor says:

Here’s my search list from yesterday :

    watchdog community north east
boom gates level crossing in nsw
    terminal illness
    king valley watchdog
    north south melbourne pipe route
    youtube climate change
    jessica campbells funeral wangaratta
    level crossing and boom gates

… not a prick amongst them
… would that mean we have a different readership?

Jack, that list is very revealing when you follow it. I still get regular searches for Warrick Cappa porn after referring to it last year. I am also surprised to find the linkbacks list growing (apart from the local logs where we might refer to one another’s posts)

  3. Actually that does explain why my piece on the high-pressure cleaning of Wodonga’s water tower has been getting so many hits I guess.

I’m just dreading the day someone types “anus burger” into their search engine.

  4. JR says:

So your fame is just around the corner, Jack? I do hope your server can handle the imminent world demand on your domain.

Just try and hang on when that 15 minutes kicks in and tell us all about it afterwards.

  5. JR if not one but three people a day are stumbling across this blog with search terms like “ugly penis” I think the only kind of fame I’m about to achieve is infamy just quietly.

  6. JR says:

Well, when it does happen, I wanna read comments like, “Geez, Jack, nice banner!”

  7. well when they do I’ll direct them to you JR.

  8. Wal Willow says:

Dear AWOL, couldn’t find a relavent thread but had to post this extract to you because R.Dixon of Alpine Opinion has taken a liking to editing my more truthful comments that may harm some of his propoganda. I posted the text below on his site in response to your comments, but he most likely has deleted them. Cheers

“AWOL, with all due respect, I want Bright to progress healthily and wisely….

You dont sound all that familiar with the supermarket proposal, but there’s a lot more to it than just the anti Coles side of things – its a half baked, half thought-out design which would have negative planning implications on the town.

Ray Dixon will have you believe otherwise (and he edits my comments to prevent the truth from getting out), because he is quite close to the developers for reasons I cant disclose on this forum.

I like progress – just the right kind that the WHOLE community is happy with, not just the ineffective council and a crack-pot blogger!”

  9. JR says:

By the way, couldn’t you find a better self portrait than that? It’s enough to throw some one off their surfing and barf all over the keyboard.

  10. JR, not me I can assure you, it’s a picture of a BBC character named Merv the Perv, I assume from some kind of BBC series which we are unlikely to get here (especially in Wangaratta).

Wal, finding ANY kind of outcome the whole community is happy with is an excercise in futility, most times it’s a question of compromise.

Firstly let me assure you I’m not in the buisiness of peddling coles’ PR wagon for them, I realise they can engage in anti-competetive buisiness practices or what have you, but surely a local chamber of commerce opposing the establishment of a new buisiness on fairly tenuous grounds is equally anti-competetive is it not?

To me it seems like a group of local buisiness owners who see an imminent reduction in their profit margins trying to regulate the marketplace to their own advantage, it’s crooked, people have the right to shop where they want and merchants have the right to sieze their market share where and when they find it.

It’s called capitalism and it seems like various store owners have their noses out of joint because the very same system which has guaranteed them a share of the local populace’s income looks set to turn on them and leave them out in the cold.

Surely you can see that being put out of buisiness by a more efficient operator is an occupational hazard of the life these people have chosen for themselves.

As for the negative planning implications, name them.
I don’t censor this forum beyond bad language or personal abuse so the floor is yours.

I have to say though, from where I sit it seems a lot like grasping at straws to prevent a legitimate buisiness venture going ahead for the reasons I outlined.

  11. raydixon says:

Gee, I just found Wal’s comment here. It seems he’ll go anywhere to discredit me. Pretty sneaky.

Incidentally his comment was published on my blog – minus of course the untrue allegation he made in reference to my connections to the developer of the Coles building in Bright, of which there are none.

That part would seem to have been his motive for clogging up your comments with his crap, Jack.

  12. How do I respond to that?

Crap or no I try to provide a forum for people to comment on local issues, and offer a right of reply.

I haven’t seen Wal back since, perhaps because he didn’t find me a particularly sympathetic ear, I have no idea.

  13. raydixon says:

How do I respond to that?Well you don’t need to. My comment was a correction of “Wal’s” untrue allegation, that’s all.

  14. well I guess if he’s making the accusation, the onus of the burden of proof is on him really.

  15. raydixon says:

I just love this search term I found on my stats today:

    where is mt hoffam

I’m surprised it got to my site – Google is getting good.

  16. I assume no need for me to play around with wordpress this weekend then?

And I’m quite pleased for you that a “man with giant penis” search ended up here.

  17. less so about the “ugly penis” search term however.

Still I guess they’re all pretty ugly so I shouldn’t take it personally.
