Brazen attack on one of our most vulnerable.

Police are hunting two men after a calous and sickening attack on an elderly woman in QEII Square at around 5:30 pm on Saturday afternoon.

The woman, who does not want to be identified as she is fearful of reprisals, was hit to the right side of the face by an unidentified man and her handbag was taken.

The first attacker is described as “wearing black and having something over his head”.

He was of a medium build and 179cm tall.

The second person is described as having a thin build and being shorter, wearing light clothing and no shoes.

The attack occurred just before 5.30pm while there was still some daylight and after the woman had left the toilets at the centre and was headed towards where her car was parked in Olive Street via an alleyway on the eastern side of the building between the square and Swift Street

The offenders are believed to have ran off along Swift Street towards Olive Street.

The stolen handbag was recovered near a fire exit at the Albury Convention and Performing Arts Centre and handed in to police.

It is still not known exactly what was stolen.

Anyone with information is asked to ring Albury police on 02) 60 239299.

About alburywodongaonline

Hi I'm Jack Stone (a pseudonym), I'm a long-time Albury resident and I think it's a great place to live and work. I have a strong interest in local events and media and I started this site because I think a different perspective is often needed when reporting local news. I take a keen interest in local politics, as well as what's going on at the state and federal level, I'm also a supporter of social justice issues, the envirionment and the need for people to have a say in the events that effect their lives. I'm a fan of the Border Bandits and I'd love to see both teams take the flag this year, and next year, and maybe the one after that too.

$30 AWOL. According to WIN TV News the f….rs belted a frail 82 yr old woman in the head for thirty lousy bucks.

I don’t like to sound like a ‘typical disgusted adult’ but what else can you say but “what the f..k are we coming to” when this sort of thing happens in, not only only the centre of the CBD, but in the civic centre square?

  2. I didn’t say anything in the main post because I didn’t want to throw a red herring into the police appeal for public information, but I suspect someone should let a few Albury city councillors know that THIS is what a drug related violent incident looks like.

Incidentally, the one and only police station in Albury just happens to be less than fifty metres from where the attack took place.

It wasn’t in the news, but that’s true.
